AVSA 2010

"The Once and Future Violet"
The AVSA Convention will be from April 11- 18 at the Hilton Hotel in Raleigh, NC. This will be the first time AVSA has held a convention in Raleigh. Convention host of course is the Mid Atlantic African Violet Society. This means it will be one of the best conventions ever since MAAVS is the nations premiere violet society.  Perhaps you've seen the series of convention articles in the African Violet Society of America AVM?  The tours are now in place. We'll be visiting the potters of Seagrove, NC, Duke Gardens and a host of other areas in and around Raleigh, NC.
The AVSA 2010 pages (link at the left) have the complete event schedule with tours, speakers and hours of operation.

The African Violet Showroom and the Vendor Salesroom will open to the public Friday April 16 and Saturday April 17. Hours: Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  If you are not registered for the convention, admission is $5 which you can use as a credit towards membership in the African Violet Society of America at the show.

We have an AVSA 2010 convention page on Facebook with almost daily updates. Come see us on Facebook at the following link:

AVSA 2010 Update - I/40 closure info

April 5, 2010. It's almost time for the 64th AVSA convention from April 11-17, 2010 in Raleigh, NC. Attendees traveling to Raleigh from the West should be informed that I-40 is closed at the NC/TN border due to a massive rockslide several months ago. The road will not be open during our convention dates. Some acceptable alternate routes are the I-81, I-26 corridor to the North around the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains or the I-20, I-85 corridor around the Smokeys to the South.  Consult your map or travel service for your appropriate route to avoid I-40 at the NC/TN border and have a safe trip to "The Once and Future Violet". See you in Raleigh.

Washington Post African Violet Story

February 1, 2007
The Washington Post had a nice African Violet article titled "Violet Overcomes Fusty Stereotype". Interviewed are several prominent African Violet personalities including our own Ken Barbi. Click on the story title and check it out.
(It must have been a good story. The same article, word for word identical, appeared in some newspapers on Mothers Day, May 13)
